Teacher Post: The Book and You

This post has three parts to answer. It will take at least three to four sentences to completely answer them.

Text-to-self connections are connections that you make between the text and your own life experiences. Example: “This story reminds me of a visit to my grandmother’s house when ....”

Text-to-text connections are connections that you make to other things you have read -- a book, short story, or poem. Example: “This character has a similar problem to one that I read about in ....”

Text-to-world connections are broader connections that you make while reading. A book might remind you of something you learned through a movie, television program, newspaper, magazine, or song. Example: “When I was reading the book, I remember listening to a song that told about same idea of ....”

Teacher Post: The Book

Explain you like most about the book....

The plot (the way the story fits together like a puzzle)?
A character (the way a character seems real or believable to you)?
The style (the way the story sounds natural, simple, and/or real)?
The setting (the way the story helps you see where it takes place)?
The theme (what lessons did you learn)?

Your Questions or Comments for Others

As you read your novel, there might be questions or thoughts that you would like to have answered or commented on by others. Under this post, this is where you will add them, for example,

Why did the Andy have to . . . ?
Why couldn't he have . . . ? or
If it was me, I wouldn't have . . . .

This is where you will be expected add 1 or more postings for others to comment on, and you will be expected to comment on at least 2 postings from other students. Have fun, but remember the rules.
